On January 9, 2024, the Port Customs Commission met for the first time. It was re-established by a resolution of the KIGM (National Chamber of Maritime Economy) Council dated September 14, 2023.
Its predecessor had spent ten years preparing the “Compendium of Practices and Principles of Cooperation Among Port Trade Participants,” a document published in 2013. Since then, numerous changes have occurred across various areas within ports and port-related trade. The “Port Customs Commission 2.0” aims to update and expand upon this existing document.
Twenty-one individuals representing various organizations, institutions, and companies- primarily those involved in the work of the original commission- have expressed their willingness to participate in the new commission’s activities.
The January meeting was attended by representatives from:
• The Port Authorities of Gdynia, Gdańsk, and Szczecin-Świnoujście,
• The Port Stakeholder Councils of Gdynia, Szczecin, and Świnoujście,
• The Maritime Offices in Szczecin and Gdynia,
• The Polish Chamber of Forwarding and Logistics,
• The Association of Small Seaports,
• The Centre for Maritime Economy Research,
• The leadership of the National Chamber of Maritime Economy (KIGM), the KIGM Expert College, and the International Court of Arbitration at KIGM,
• Polish PCS,
• The companies Speed and DB Port Szczecin.
The list of individuals and entities participating in the work of this body remains open. During the inaugural meeting, the purpose and rationale of the Commission’s work were discussed, along with a preliminary outline of its scope. It was decided that the primary focus of deliberations and subsequent activities would be to update the Commission’s 2003 Rules of Procedure and align them with current needs, requirements, and circumstances. Once the KIGM Council adopts the amended document, it will be possible to elect the Commission’s Presidium and define the direction and scope of its activities.
Work on the Commission’s Rules of Procedure is expected to be completed by mid-February.
