As an emerging sector of Poland’s maritime economy, offshore wind energy presents an opportunity for professional growth and socio-economic development- both for the country as a whole and for the Pomerania region in particular. Consequently, on September 15, 2023, the University of Gdańsk is opening admissions for the third edition of the postgraduate program “Education for Sustainable Development: Offshore Wind Energy,” conducted by the UG Centre for Sustainable Development in collaboration with the UG Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies.

The study program aims to enhance the skills of individuals interested in gaining knowledge and securing employment in the offshore sector- a field experiencing dynamic growth in Poland, Europe, and globally. The curriculum covers subjects such as offshore wind energy law, offshore wind energy capacity management, business risk management, power generation control in offshore wind farms, maritime spatial planning, and the role of offshore wind energy in the energy transition, as well as specialized English.

“Our postgraduate program focuses on building collaboration and communication skills by presenting the multifaceted and interdisciplinary nature of offshore wind energy- covering law, management, safety, oversight, and maritime spatial planning- in a manner that is both scientifically rigorous and practically grounded. The common thread running through the program’s twelve courses is the goal of achieving a just energy transition- a process in which we are already stakeholders today and will undoubtedly remain so in the future,” says the program director, Dr. Dorota Pyć (Associate Professor at the University of Gdańsk and Director of the UG Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies).

This study program is addressed to:

Employees of small, medium, and large enterprises, particularly in the energy and technology sectors

Public administration staff- especially those involved in energy, energy policy, investments, and project management- who wish to acquire knowledge and skills regarding the legal aspects of offshore wind energy, maritime spatial planning, and administrative processes related to offshore wind investments, including communication and stakeholder relations

Staff from non-governmental organizations focused on offshore renewable energy and environmental protection within the context of sustainable development

Individuals seeking to retrain for a career in the offshore wind energy sector

What sets the “Education for Sustainable Development: Offshore Wind Energy” postgraduate program apart?
