As of October 1, 2024, the Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies has a new director. Dr. hab. Paweł Antonowicz, Prof. UG, Vice-Rector for Development and Finance, appointed Mr. Ernest Czermański to the position.
Professor Ernest Czermański is a graduate and faculty member of the University of Gdańsk, where he heads the Maritime Economy Unit within the Department of Transport and Maritime Trade at the Faculty of Economics. He specializes in maritime shipping, seaports, intermodal transport, and offshore wind energy. He has participated in numerous international research projects and authored many publications in the fields of transport and the maritime economy. Throughout his long career at the University of Gdańsk, he has led or participated in projects funded by European Union programs such as the 7th Framework Programme, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, INTERREG BSR, INTERREG South Baltic, and Erasmus+. Since 2007, he has served as an evaluator and expert assessing the economic-financial and technical-technological feasibility of projects under the Regional Operational Programme for the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the university-affiliated company UNIVENTUM LABS. He was a co-creator of the Pomeranian Smart Specialization No. 1 (Port-Logistics and Offshore) in 2016. He is a member of Working Group No. 3 on offshore wind, established by the Minister of Climate and Environment. He is a founder and Council member of the Polish Offshore Wind Energy Chamber. In June 2022, he co-founded and joined the management bodies of Bota Green Offshore Sp. z o.o. and Bota Shipping Sp. z o.o., companies operating in the offshore wind energy sector.
