The 22nd BALTEXPO 2023 International Maritime Trade Fair and Conference- the most important event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe- took place at AmberExpo in Gdańsk from October 10 to 12, 2023. The event brought together representatives from the shipbuilding industry, shipyards, ports and terminals, and the offshore sector. Held for over 40 years, BALTEXPO is an international event that offers excellent opportunities for establishing business contacts, enhancing knowledge and skills, and gaining new ideas.
The Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies was responsible for organizing the University of Gdańsk’s participation in BALTEXPO 2023 and promoting its educational programs related to the maritime economy and marine-related fields. At BALTEXPO 2023, the University of Gdańsk showcased its interdisciplinary research potential and experience- gained through collaboration with European maritime universities in the SEA-EU consortium and with the domestic and regional socio-economic environment- while highlighting the support it offers offshore sector businesses in the areas of analysis, research, and best practices. Collaboration with the University was promoted as a means to implement R&D outcomes and increase the participation of Polish enterprises in the offshore wind farm supply chain. Emphasis was placed on the University’s extensive educational offerings designed for the offshore sector to train personnel for the offshore wind industry. Attendees were invited to explore undergraduate, master’s, and postgraduate programs, including Environmental Protection, Marine Hydrography, Oceanography, Offshore Maritime Sectors (MSO), GIS (postgraduate), and Education for Sustainable Development: Offshore Wind Energy (a postgraduate program offered by the Centre for Sustainable Development and the Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies). BALTEXPO 2023 participants could learn more about the University’s offerings at the UG stand, which was managed by the Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Development and students from the Faculty of Economics, with support from the Office for Cooperation and Development.
BALTEXPO 2023 also featured a scientific conference marking the 70th anniversary of the International Court of Arbitration at the National Maritime Chamber of Commerce in Gdynia; organized with the support of the University of Gdańsk’s Centre for the Maritime Economics Studies, the event included a presentation by Dorota Pyć titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence Systems in Arbitration.”
